New Christian Art for Nurseries

For years I have struggled with finding the right picture of Jesus for my children's room. I don't talk about my faith often enough here, but Jesus is the center of our family, and I care so much about having visual reminders around the home.

As a mother of 4 children, and even as a child myself, I've noticed that children aren't as attracted to the pictures of Christ that are more dramatic, dark or earth tone in color. Children know Jesus to be the creator of our colorful world, tender, soft and gentle. They haven't yet come to know the Redemptive Christ that is more often portrayed in Christian art. They relate to a sweet Jesus, colorful and bright. I've wanted to create my own illustrations for a while, but I've put it off because, well.....llustrating a picture of Jesus is rather an intimidating task!! But after talking with other mothers about my feelings on this, I realized that maybe it's true...it's difficult to find art of the Savior in colors that we decorate our babies nurseries in. It's difficult to find pictures of Jesus that are simple and non-classical in nature. And for very good reasons...deciding to illustrate this print was maybe the hardest thing I've ever chosen to do!

This print, JESUS LOVES ME, is available in two colors. I couldn't decide which I liked best, so they are both available! This is the first in hopefully more Christian art prints that I hope to bring to the shop in an effort to help Moms, like me, find Christian art that inspires but also fits in the decor of a child's space.  I've already put this one up in my kid's rooms, and they love it. I hope your children love it too!

I will be debuting these at BYU on Friday at the BYU bookstore at Women's Conference and would love to see you there if you are local! They are available in the shop now!

New Space, New Changes.

Hello! Thanks for a great sale yesterday! It's been so fun to get all these packages out to you! We are in the studio packing away, and it feels good to clean out, and make room for more projects in the future:)

I'm cleaning up on all fronts, and I wanted to let you know that, as you can tell, I have a new website and blog! But, like all cleaning, there is still some more work to do, so forgive me as the blog is still under construction a bit. The shop is still my original shop, and will be shifting over to this new space soon, just FYI. And currently my blog is still getting worked on. So, Mind the Gap!

I'd love it if you'd look around and let me know what you think! Let me know if there are any bugs on the website, etc. I hope you like it! I was able to work with the incredible Dabito at Old Brand New, and he's done an amazing job! He's so super talented, and I'm just so glad that I finally was able to build a space that had all my work and brand in one single location that you can look through easily.

And in other news, Allie, my studio manager, is moving to Arizona, and we will be moving the shop there too. When you find someone as amazing as Allie, you don't try to replace her. You just follow her wherever she goes! So I'm sad to move packing and shipping out of my home, but so glad to keep Allie!

It feels good to be blogging again....good to be back.

Cheers!

Sarah Jane Fabric Flash Sale

I'm doing some major spring cleaning in the studio right now, and I'm selling off leftovers of my fabric that has been taking up tons of space! I am making room for new fabric to come into the studio (more on that soon!) and so I'm selling off Fat Quarter bundles and scrap back in a quick flash sale today!

CLICK HERE for the page of fabric listings

At 1 pm Mountain Standard Time in the USA (That's Denever time if you don't know) I will be posting Fat Quarter Bundles from my past collections, which will be grouped by collection, and will have 10 in a stack. I can't list each bundle individually, so you won't know exactly what you are getting, but If you know what collection you are looking for, and what colors, you should be good. You are also welcome to specify a certain piece if you are looking for one and I will do my best, but I can't promise.

The last time I had a studio sale, it sold in about a minute or so. So I'm trying to make it as easy to check out as possible. If you put an item in your cart first, you will be able to keep it in your cart, but you won't know if it's yours for good until you go to check out. Does that make sense? Also, if you've purchased before or have an account, your info will be automatically filled in which can make things faster too.

Just helpful hints:)

It feels good to be making room for more fabric coming soon!

And to be blogging again.

On this new site! Which is still getting tweaked, but it's exciting!

More on that soon too:)

See you At 1pm!

Blogging Again Soon

Hello! I'm peeking in to say hello, and let you know I am here, alive and well, and still very active in all things Sarah Jane! I stopped blogging for a spell kind of on accident...a gentle mix of winter ills, deadlines, post holiday slump and instagram taking the roll of communicating the stuff that's going on behind the scenes.

But also, because I'm building a new website, and a new blog, shop, etc. and You know...it always feels funny to update your old space while you're building a new one!

But I wanted to come on in and say hello, hope you are still here, and let you know that I'm planning on keeping the blog up but more so when I get the new site up at the end of the month! A perfect spring clean:)

I can't wait to show you the new site, which will be so wonderful so see so much more all in one place.

Thanks guys!

New Paper Puppets in the shop

It's been a while since I've made new paper puppets in the shop! They are one of my best sellers, and I know you have so much fun making these! This summer, we had an amazing Midsummer Event that I helped to host, and I made these articulated puppets for the event. And now you can print and download them! It's a little late for Midsummers, but these puppets are perfect for a folksy halloween!

There are four characters from the play A Midsummer Night's Dream that I felt were the most fun. I actaully was in this play in highschool and it was such a great experience! It's so playful and fun, and timeless!

The story is that The King of the Fairies (not shown) wants to seek revenge on the Queen of the fairies and orders Puck, a spritely elf, to make a magical flower potion and use it on Titania so that she falls in love with the first thing that she sees. Puck has mischieviously turned Nick Bottom's head into the head of a Donkey just for fun, and places him in view of the Fairy Queen. Puck requires the help of the fairy to carry out the plan, and it ends up being a hilarious whimsical practical joke!

I hope you enjoy making these puppets! They are printable on any home computer, but I do suggest that you print on heavier paper so that the puppest can hold their own weight when help upright. You will need to purchase mini-brads to fasten them together (available at any craft store in the scrapbook deparment). You'll also need a pushpin, scissors, tape and a wooden dowel or stick to hold the puppets upright if you so wish.

The download also includes a procenium incase you would like to create a staged event!

These videos below were SO fun to make. Stop Animation is a new creative addiciton of mine, and it makes everything come to life! Trisha Zemp and I had so much fun putting this together. She's amazing to work with, and we had a l ittle too much fun.

(there are two videos FYI...the second is a white starting screen:) My kids love making stop animation videos on the ipad, and these puppets would be so much fun to make movies with. Check out all the other puppets I have in the shop! I hope to be adding more in the weeks and months to come!

Purchase and Download your puppets here, and you will get an email automatically in your inbox with the 7 page document ready to print out!

Friday thoughts

you-were-designed-for-this.blog_.jpg

This thought has been consuming me lately. And it's been changing the way I think, and do things.

As I've been focussing on living more diliberately in all aspects of my life, this thought has been my anchor. Life is so full, isn't it? While I'm constantly recentering and focussing on my priorities, it's easy to feel like it's all consuming!  All good things mostly:)  but even too many good thing can be daunting!

But then I remember that "this" is what I was designed to do! And it's amazing what that simple thought can do.

Whatever your "this" is, know that you were designed for greatness and that you have access to everything you need to be who you were designed to be!

Love to you all this weekend!
