Sarah Jane Pop Up Shop

SARAH JANE PILLOWS1

I'm really looking forward to getting these lovely pillows and quilts into your hands. They have been waiting in my studio for some time and are ready to make new homes.

Each one of these pillows, quilts, prints and aprons are one of  a kind and sewn with love . These pillows above, for instance, each have vintage trims that I've collected from various places. It's hard to give these up!

I'm going to be listing these MONDAY 11am Pacific/2 pm Eastern time in my shop. So be ready! I hope to have more pop-up sales like this in the future, but this is the last of my hand sewn goods that I'll have for a long while!

Here are snapshots of what's in store. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments below.

Out to Sea lovelies just for you

out to sea sale 1

So, it may or may not have been 5 months since my Out to Sea products were featured on One Kings Lane, and I'm finally getting around to putting what's left up in my shop!

Last holiday season, One Kings Lane wanted to feature a children's themednautical collection around my fabric. It was a delight to design some pillows and quilts and aprons, as I just love the design process. I had lots of help sewing to get it all ready, and most of it sold in the 72 hours it was up. But there are some items that weren't even listed and I'm going to be putting them up in the shop next week.

The last time I had a sale like this in my shop, things sold out in minutes, and lots of people weren't prepared for that. I wasn't either. So I want to make sure that I give plenty of warning:) You might want to play with the checkout process before hand, just to get a sense. I've heard signing up with an account can make things go faster too. Just sayin'

I'm going to be posting all the items that will be for sale over the weekend (so be sure to check in saturday or sunday) so you can really spend time knowing exactly what you will be searching for. There are some gorgeous quilts and decorative pillows, original art....it really is lovely. And I'm sad to part with it, but I can't keep it all!

The sale will be Monday May 13th at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific time. Here's a time zone converter if you need one. And if you have any questions, ask away!

Thank you for all your lovely comments about the new fabric line:) I can't wait to dive into it more. So having this last little sale for Out to Sea feels like perfect timing.

Introducing: Let's Pretend

catalog cover blog

Well, here it is!!!

Say hello to a new friend....the Let's Pretend Fabric Collection. I think you two will get along great.

Let's start off with a  simple "Hello."

Let's Pretend was inspired by that phrase that I just adore as a mother. It's a daily scenario: I'm in the kitchen, and the kids are in the next room pulling out toys or maybe nothing at all, and I hear "Hey! I know! Let's Pretend that I'm a super hero and you are a dinosaur king......" and it goes from there. It's the kinda thing we take for granted. But it's exactly the thing I'm going to miss when my kids are too old for that kind of play (sigh.)

I wanted to create a collection that really had spontenaity and life to it....but at the same time pulled on that playfulness we all love about children at home.

But while I was designing it, I was also pulled into awareness of some of my favorite Scandinavian children's designers, and what they were creating with this same theme. So much of what I've seen in fashion, decor and even runway action has pulled on this theme of a "child's imagination." And while this collection stays pretty close to your own living room, it still has those elements of whimsy and drama. Masks, marionettes and some fun geometrics gives a bit of a European flare. But then there are play forts, wooden blocks and dress-ups too.

And let's not forget about color. I have really been a bright jewel tones kick lately. And with this theme of play and drama, it was the perfect fit. There are two color ways, but the fabrics (once again) are really  just one big family. Bright jewel tones against cool grays.

I'm not going to be going to Quilt Market this Spring (another sigh) simply because my pregnancy has been fragile, and I've been off my feet and trying to keep a baby inside me:) I am doing really well this week, but it could change in any moment. So, I'm sad to be missing all the action, but I'm super glad I can stay home and take care of this tummy of mine. Priorities.

But while I won't be having a booth, I hope I can continue to feature great projects of mine and yours over the coming months!

The fabric is getting ordered by stores now, and will be shipping in a couple weeks. But, if you have a favorite Fabric store that you like to go to, here is a PDF PRINTABLE CATALOG for you to print and give to your local shops! So, feel free to start asking them about it now, since it's available for order already.

It's always a bit exciting and nerve-wracking to share a new collection. This one I came up with a year ago. Wow. And it's fun to relive all those early design moments again.

I have lots more to share....and I will be trickling in more inspiration and ideas over the coming weeks and months. But for now, here it is!

I'd love to hear your feedback!

Spring Sewing Ideas

pin and flickr fridays Spring has brought my sewing machine out again. I've got new fabric (squee!) that I'm cutting into, and I find myself collecting ideas for spring projects. You? Like, I need some more picnic quilts, a good skirt for my daughter and I'd love to get Ian a bed quilt for his bed. All projects that I've not really been motivated to create lately. Something about spring gets me all excited again.

I was browsing through your AMAZING Flickr photos and Pinterest photos last night, and I wanted to share a few. The Flickr Groups are rockin' awesome and I just love getting inspired by your ideas. Please go and take a peek....get inspired, cause there is no way I can include all your amazing designs here!

Sarah Jane & Modcloth

Screen shot 2013-03-28 at 10.53.13 PM It takes a lot for me to get genuinely excited about things. Well, genuinely excited about the outcome of a studio related project. I do what I do because it's what I do! And so to see unexpected little surprises always gets me.

Are you a MODCLOTH shopper? I am. Especially in the spring. Such awesome stuff.

So when I saw that this skirt was going to be available soon at MODCLOTH....I was so excited!! And then when I saw that it already has 426 likes and it's not even available yet....I thought it would be the respectable thing to let you know. So you can grab one first:) In case you want to, that is.   It makes me SO happy to see my fabric designs on grown-up people. So darling, right?

I have no idea when it's going to be available, but you can sign up to get notified. I'm sure I'll post on Facebook when it's up and ready, so check there too.

Happy Easter weekend everyone!!

Here and there.

893264_10151814331798065_391057889_o Hello my friends, how are you?

Sometimes writing and sharing can be so yummy and great...and other times, I wonder about all of you out there....I think about you and wish I knew more of who you are. I mean, writing to you and hearing from you in writing is great and all....but I really do prefer the one on one, you know? It's the lovely irony with connecting through online devises...we are able to share more than ever and support like never before....but sometimes I just wish I could just have you all over for a big brunch and chatting. But I'm not an event planner either, so well....there we go.

Anyways. That's what I'm thinking about right now.

So, Fabric. I can't believe it was almost two years ago since I designed my first collection of fabric. And while I've managed to only do one a year since, I'm working on presenting my THIRD....and I'm baffled with how time flies. And how you are all still sewing with Children at Play. It makes me happy to see sweet pictures like this. Man. If I had a dress like that when I was a girl....

So, yes. Third fabric line coming soon. Can't tell you much about it except that it will be shipping in May. And That's coming sooner than you know it!

So much love gets put into the fabric....it's such an intense process, and takes so much focus and thought. So when I see your projects, made with the same love, intention and energy, it just makes it feel all worth it. Thank you so much for sharing as much as you do! These pics were taken from Safflower Photography, and Miranda is the one that sent me the link on Facebook with her and her two kids....how adorable to see the WHOLE family decked out in the same fabric. Makes me smile.

Have a lovely weekend friends!

See you monday, Sarah

Around the world and web this week

Ooooooh. I love weekends.Especially today, because it's really feeling like Spring is here! And this week, looking back, there  has  been some really diverse and special online action that I wanted to share with you! Mostly cause I think you'd really be interested. I don't share a lot of what happens out there in the web here in this space, but this week really caught my eye.

1) GIVEAWAY:

First off, this adorable nursery is featuring basically everything you can imagine from the Out to Sea collection.

Not just the fabric, but she used the free templates I offered, a few Blog Tour patterns, you name it. It's adorable! And she's giving away a free Sarah Jane print. You for sure want to sign up! I haven't had a giveaway in a while (hmmmmm....that could be fun!) but there is a small pool that I'd love to see beef up a bit to show support for this incredibly creative space. And you could get a free print out of it! Horray!

Click here to enter the giveaway! Ends in 4 days.

2) AUCTION FOR CANCER RESEARCH

Next up is this amazing story of a mom and her daughter Charlotte who has been battling the trial of terminal brain cancer. Diagnosed at 3 months, she was given 3 months to live. But she's now over 2 years old, and such a fighter! This mom has been making quilts to auction off in order to raise funds for the Brain Cancer Research at Duke University, which is where she is treated. This quilt is already sold (darn!) but she's posting a quilt a week, and all funds go to support the people who are helping Charlotte, and other children with Cancer, fight the fight.

This part of her post brought tears to my eyes. Her whole room is decked out in Children at Play fabric, and she tells her little girl:

"Charlotte, right now, you're the one riding the pink elephant..."

"But one day, baby, you'll be the little girl who is waving the flags with both arms up."

How sweet is this little champ? Love this sweet angel.

Click here to check out her amazing quilts.

And here to visit the post about her darling Children at Play room.

3) News Feature on Art for Kid's Rooms

This week also, my 3 Chairs Print was featured in a Canadian news station in Toronto, City Line, where they were talking about art for kid's rooms that keep things interesting and creative. It's a great post! Check it out. Lots of great art to inspire your children when they are daydreaming in their room. You can see the blog post here. Thanks City Line!

4) Country Living FeatureScreen shot 2013-03-14 at 9.36.06 PM

Screen shot 2013-03-14 at 9.36.06 PM Screen shot 2013-03-14 at 9.36.14 PM

And lastly, remember this DIY project from, oh, maybe 5 years ago? It feels like yesterday that I had my toddlers on my lap making this project to keep them entertained on one of those crazy "mommy" days. I needed to do something with ALL the art they loved to make, and this seemed like the perfect solution. These templates have been circling the web for ages, but Country Living Magazine picked up this idea and shared it this week with their online readers! It's making me nostalgic. But regardless, it's a great little DIY. Click here to see the other ways to feature your kids art, and click here to download the templates for the project!

Wasn't that fun? I love what I do, but getting such diverse feedback....from art prints on a news station to supporting a toddler with cancer to sharing how to be creative with your kids....and decking out a new nursery....I sometimes take a step back and just feel so blessed to interact with some really amazing people and meet so many of you who are able to use my art to share the love even more. Thank you!

I hope you all have a lovely weekend! I have a lot of projects that I want to share with you....stuff you can make, and create with....so stay tuned!

And Happy St. Pat's!  We're corned beef and cabbage people...but just once a year:)

Well, spring IS around the corner. I honestly can't wait. I spent the day with the windows open, digging out closets and rearranging furniture. Best feeling ever!

Here's a dress that a reader sent over to me from CWKids.  She saw this in their catalog, and I'm so glad she told me! It's darling. And for you non-sewers, this is a great way to get some of my fabric ready to go. Such a sweet spring dress!

And speaking of spring dresses....since when did Easter creep up so fast! Yikes! Time to start thinking of Easter dresses. I'll know what I'm having by then too. I can't wait!

Are you making dresses this spring? Or buying? I'd love to see your ideas!
