Blessed.

I got a magazine in the mail today. Have you seen this yet? It’s a new magazine from Better Homes and Gardens called Make it Yourself. The premier issue covers lots of great projects, and I’m thrilled to have contributed!

This past spring, I was contacted by Better Homes to design an embroidery using the word ‘Blessed’ and this image immediately came to mind.

I’ve had this print in the shop for a while, and I always thought it would make the most fun sampler stitching project. All those warm cozy quilt patches to stitch!

It was so fun to open up to the article, and see my design! And I’ve finally gotten it up in the shop for you to stitch too!

This is super appropriate to post today, because last night took approximately 2.45 hours of putting children to bed. One sick, one wide awake from a long nap, one needing this and that. Lots of hugs, snuggles, back scratches. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It’s the most precious time of day for me and I love it. Even when it means that I no longer get any time left to myself at night, I know how precious these moments are. They go so fast. And today I’m feeling just that….Blessed.

I hope you enjoy this one! It’s a great project for the holidays coming up….makes a darling gift to put in a frame, or a special sewn up project. I can’t wait to see all the different versions you make!

Happy Stitching!

Holly, you are the sweetest. And YES! It is the greatest job in the world!!

This is so beautiful! If only I could embroider. I’ve tried to teach myself but trying to open a book and decode those instructions – without having someone over your shoulder telling you exactly what to do next – is really overwhelming. Hopefully one day i’ll figure it out. I’ll bookmark this pattern for the time being. :)

Jenni! You can totally do it;) It’s much much easier than it looks. And super theraputic…perfect for the end of stressful days:) There are good videos on youtube as well. Maybe I should make some too…

Oh I would love it if you made some embroidery how-to videos! I’ve never done it before but just purchased a couple of your patterns. I really would like to make them for my daughter’s room. Thanks!!

How pretty! Very appropriate for my day too. My 3 year old has been up since 2am vomiting. I’m covered in the scent of sickness. So happy that I can stay home to be with her.

Oh dear. I was there last week! So hard, but so precious:) Get better little one!

  • Kristin Marvin

What a beautiful embroidery. It is so sweet and my fave along with the “Be Still” embroidery. I have an hour in the evening to relax, wind down and watch a favorite show with my husband. Some nights I spend a very long time talking with my girls about an issue that is bothering them, situation at school, life lesson. I find that time of getting “caught” in their room to talk as a blessed opportunity. That I am there to guide, explain, sooth, help understand, calm…it is very gratifying. I love your work Sarah! And thank you for sharing your life and thoughts with us.

Kristin, that is so wonderful. It is the most precious time, and I’ve watched my own mother mourn the graduation of it all….can’t regret it for a second:)

  • Gina

Congratulations, how fun to open the magazine and see you!! The magazine looks like a fun little read. What a precious embroidery! I love it and will have to get it.

  • Phyllis Harris

Congratulations on being in the magazine!! And thank you for your sweet post. The time really does fly by…it seems I was just tucking my little girl in…and now she is a happily married woman as of June of this year! Time goes by so FAST!

    • http://www.sarahjanestudios.com/ Sarah Jane

This is beautiful. I like the cross stitch better than the print.

Sara Jane, I am soo glad BHG called you, because I think the embroidery version of this sweet design is wonderful!
I am helping a friend sew her toddler’s room decor with Out to Sea and I have a question…..She will be using the Deep Sea Jewel colourway, so how well do some of the prints from Ahoy There and Morning Coral play with Jewel, like ship wheel in pink and sailors abc and the stripe in Navy. We must order on-line because of our location. Thanks for your help and please keep creating… at least until I have grandchildren to sew for ;)

    • http://www.sarahjanestudios.com/ Sarah Jane

Hi Peggy! Happy to help. Here’s the easy answer: Jewel goes BEST with the AHOY THERE colors, and with the GREY’s and YELLOWS in Morning coral. So, the fabrics you mentioned will couple together splendidly. The Navy’s are the same across the board, and the saturation of the orange/red color goes well with the deep colors in the JEWEL colorway. The only colors that you might want to stay away from, are the more coral-y colors in the morning coral colorway, as they are true corals, not rich raspberry pinks like in the Jewel. Does that help? I think your pairings will be great based on what you suggested. Have fun!!

      • http://www.facebook.com/peggy.seccomb Peggy Seccomb

Yes! It does help! thank you so much. We are going to make the zigzag, and back from a quilt is nice. And pillows, and stuff!

I absolutely love this pattern. My Mom and best friend passed away two weeks ago and I’ve been having a very hard time. I am trying to focus on the positive, like how blessed I’ve been to have her in my life, and that I know I’ll see her again. But it is still hard and just sucks. Thank you for this pattern, it came at just the right time for me.
