Let them play.

I think a lot of how children play. I marvel at it. I wonder at it. Getting inside their minds and seeing all the amazing worlds they are creating.  I guess it’s a good thing I do what I do: raise children, make things and draw for them. I seriously consider myself lucky every single day. It’s seriously the most beautiful thing to observe a child at play.

Here’s our photo journal of play this past month.

Here’s my ode to childhood imagination, as promised with a sketch for each post.

There is so much going on in those minds. Amazing what goes on in their world.

PS: Shop update coming very soon:) Stay tuned!

Oh, I agree with Lara, would love to see that sketch in the shop. Beautiful photos, I’m imagining you hiding behind the furniture to get some of the action shots…x

That illustration is unreal! It’s so unique and so relevant to today’s child. It’s like an updated Petite Prince. I don’t even have sons, and I’d want to hang it somewhere. Well done!

Love the shots of your children at play! My favorite is the fish picture – all the colors fit together so beautifully. I adore this illustration! I have 4 boys with very active imaginations and I’d love to hang that in my house!

I don’t have any kids yet but I love children and hope to have some soon. When I do, I am soooo going to have to buy your pictures, fabric, etc… I LOVE following your Blog!!! A growth idea for your awesome business would maybe figure out a way to set up some sort of simple online registry for expecting moms… :) .

Yay! Can’t wait to see the shop update! I’d pick up a print of The Secret Imagination of Boys in a heartbeat, fyi!

  • Jen

Oh! My! I love that print! It reminds me so much of the drawings my 13 year old has been doing since he was 5. Pretty please put it in the shop.

The sketch at the bottom of this post reminds me of my 6.5 year old son and his endless designs for his train tracks. They have encompassed much of the lounge room, hallway and his bedroom on many occasions and almost always has to include his entire collection of tank engines to go with it. I love this sketch – so perfect in capturing the creative spirit of a child – and as many mums might say, their child. You are truly inspirational Sarah.

Hi Sarah Jane! It’s been ages since I visited your blog. You are so busy and everything is just wonderful. What an inspiration you are! The kids have grown so much and are so darling.
I spotted one my bags here which thrilled me to bits!!!! It still looks brand-new! I posted it to Pinterest, if you don’t mind. (linked back to you).
Good luck with your new intern.
