More books to love: Tilly.
August 05, 2010

Polly Dunbar’s Tilly books are so delightful. Have you seen these books yet? They are rather new. You may have heard of her from this favorite picture book. She is a young British illustrator, and I just love her whimsicality. Her stories are very simple, but that is what makes them so appealing. If you can’t tell, I am a big lover of simple childhood…and these stories are just that. Childhood at it’s essence.
You’ll fall in love with her sweet characters.

And even better..there’s a whole series of books about each of her friends. If you library doesn’t have these, talk with your Librarian about getting them. They really are delightful little books perfect for very young readers.

I’m adding to my list – thanks!!
Adorable! I’m so wanting to go hang out at the bookstore in the children’s section. If adults can still do that without suspicion. I hope so. Thanks again, Sarah, for sharing your love of children’s illustration.
My four year old randomly discovered a Tilly book (or two) at the library a couple of months ago. I immediately fell in love with the illustrations and the stories didn’t disappoint, either! Thanks for featuring these. Polly Dunbar’s work always brings a smile to my face!
I discovered these books in a little toy/book store for children(and grown-up kids!)and was smitten with Tilly, too!! I was drawn to the simplicity of the illustrations and the fun characters!
Great find, to be sure!

thanks for another stellar recommendation. We are upgrading our children’s library/bookshelf and moving away from board books into preschool and bigger kids books. I’ve found some great thrift store finds (Joan Walsh Anglund book for fifty cents) but have also added some of the books you recommended (Library Lion our new fave).
My son’s favourite books around here are Oliver Jeffers books. Check them out. Great graphics.
I am particularly crazy about “GoodNight Tiptoe”- they are a charming series!
