Bringing to you a
June 25, 2010

It’s been quite a while since I’ve added anything to the shop! And with the hot summer weather, and with a potentially second summer of not being in the ocean, I have needed to get these water images down on paper. I come from a long family history of mermaids. My Grandmother’s nick-name was “The Tan Mermaid.” My mother is a Mermaid, I am one when I am any body of water (meaning I don’t get out) and now, my daughter:
From the very beginning of my shop opening, my Addie hasn’t liked much of what I had to offer her. “Mermaids, Mom. I want Mermaids.”

But I was always stumped. Mermaids just didn’t seem to “fit” in the shop, yet at the same time, all the illustrations of mermaids that were available were Disney or the like. Why can’t there be sweet vintage Mermaids? Well, they are here now, and I can’t wait to do more.

And with mermaids, whales have been on my mind a lot lately too. We’ll see how many I get out between final art pages. But these are serving as warmups, quite literally, since the book I am illustrating takes place at Christmas…and I am starting to get really cold!
Expect to see them in the shop next week! Stay tuned…..and have a wonderful summer weekend!

I need a daughter. Those mermaids are gorgeous and sweet… and big blue the whale is gorgeous too. He could definitely find a home at my house!
I love them! They would look adorable as a fabric. A lot of your prints would! Have you thought about it? My daughter would love a little mermaid quilt.
You have found a way to beautifully capture the look of “vintage mermaids.” Well done! The whale and the little boy print is friendly and sweet too.
those mermaids are perfect. they have such a great vintage feel to them. the little boy and whale are very cute too.
As always, these are lovely.
Oh Sarah! I love the mermaids, so sweet!
Sarah- I LOVE these!! Are you doing a whale in girl colors? I would love to get one to remember our almost done Caribbean days. You are so, so talented.
Love, love, love the mermaids. And the whale!
Oh, I love these so much. beautiful!
beautiful Sarah! am especially in love with the whale
Both new pieces are wonderful! I’m a “mermaid” too so I know how it is being one and not being able to get to the water all summer. So hard! I’m looking forward to seeing more mermaids.
Love ‘em! Well done!
I actually gasped when I saw the mermaids! Just yesterday my littlest little was sitting next to me when she looked up at me with her big blue eyes and said, “I like mermaids, Mama.” I can’t wait to buy this print for her. It will go nicely with the other Sarah Jane prints in her room.
I agree with Channyn that your artwork would make gorgeous fabric. If you ever try your hand at fabric, I’d be all over it!
Thanks you guys! You are the best!
LOVE them both!!!
These are so beautiful!! I love the design, colors. and feel of the illustrations. Great job! … they should be fabric!
Love these!
I am in LOVE, I cannot wait to order these!
Oh, how I love these. And thank you so much for the variety of the mermaids–that will make it especially special for my niece whose coloring is different than the rest of her family, a gentle reminder of the wide spectrum of beauty.
Will the boy with the whale be available in different colors of hair, the way your reading girls are?
Thanks so much for sharing so much whimsy and joy with us!
Hi Sarah
these are fantastic and oh so preferable to the disney variety.
My Amy sounds like your Addie, she actually BELIEVES she IS a mermaid, the more on the wall to complement the dreaming and imagination the better.
Can’t wait to see them in the shop.
Keep up the lovely and beautiful work
