I’m in final art mode for A Christmas Goodnight (Fall 2011) and I thought I’d share with you some images I have in my studio to get the juices going. The book is full of wonderful color and texture, and though the characters in these images have nothing to do with the subject I am working with, the line and color inspires me. It’s so important for me to have visual inspiration for the projects I work on. It gets me right in the mood!

Sarah, I love this post. I really enjoyed each of your inspiration pieces. And thank you for the link to Rosemary Wells’ website. It is fascinating! I am going to have a Max and Ruby party for my birthday next year – I’ll be 53. I had no idea she wrote Young Adult books. Truly, I enjoyed the entire post. Thank you for sharing and blessings on YOUR book!
Don’t you love Rosie? Do you have the album? If not I think you and especially your kids would enjoy it. I used to dance around my living room with my brother to that record. It’s awesome & I think you can find it on CD in some stores. It goes right along with the Little Nutshell Library books. I still have mine from when I was little. They are one of my earthly treasures
So excited for your new book. Can’t wait to see the finished work.
Great inspirations! Thanks for sharing. I love your work.
The gingerbread man illustration is by William Joyce. It’s from a 1983 Random House book titled MY FIRST BOOK OF NUSERY TALES. The illustrations are wonderful!! My kids have loved it for years.
Ah Thank you! William Joyce….I knew it was, but couldn’t find it anywhere on an internet search! Thanks!
Tremendous!
Wonderful inspiration!
