The Tree Swing.
April 19, 2010

We moved in about a month ago, and the very first thing we did was put in a tree swing in the back. Well, not we exactly….my monkey husband who climbed 30 feet up a tree and even chopped off a huge limb (in his dress shirt and slacks mind you….it was that urgent!) to give the rope maximum swinging power. My kids have spent hours on this thing. It reminds me of this print, but with much more action. And it makes me so happy to see them swinging up to the sky without a care in the world. And somehow when I watch, I remember my carefree moments as a child, and realize that they aren’t so far away. Better yet, they can still be had….mixed with the typical mothering-worries of course….but there are so many moments of bliss in every day. I am thankful for reminders from a tree swing.

Tree swings are so wonderful! We moved from our home last year where we had an enormous tree swing and it is the thing I miss more than anything else… I personally found it to be a great stress reliever
It is a wonderful care free moment to capture, I remember swinging in an old tractor tyre hanging from a huge oak tree, how small I felt all tucked in there swinging around! Happy Days! Catherine x
What a great tree! I am so glad you are loving your new place!
I just found your blog through nicole hill. I had a tree swing growing up and my dad always called it the best $2 he ever spent. I love it!
Ahhhh, the way kids luv to swing thru the air! My 3 boys(and daughter) luv to swing as high as possible on their tree-swing. Hey if I could fit on it< I would join them too
Sarah, I really enjoy your blog with all of the mommy adventures and artwork! And I greatly admire your illustrations- so lovely. I added your name to my blogroll on my new blog, if you get a chance DO pop by (see website address). It is very inspiring to see other mommies successfully juggling illustration careers and being a mom. Thanks:)
Having a tree with a swing is a dream come true!! how lucky!!! Enjoy it! all kids and parents ; )
So special, growing up I would visit my grandparent’s house every few months and they had two swings in their yard hung on giant old trees, and we too would swing for hours and hours.
I recently got to framing several of your prints that I have purchased over the last few months, and hung them in my son’s room. I love them! It makes me happy to walk in there, and they seriously “make” his room. We are renting so we can’t paint our walls, let alone do any other major redecorating, but just the simple act of hanging your prints makes it feel that much more like home. Someday I wish you could come and paint the walls of my children’s bedrooms and playroom. That would be so cool!
That is so sweet–I think this remembering is what helps us be good parents….
You little boy looks so big Sarah! Looking forward to seeing how you transform their spaces:)
xoxo
I love that Kenny is just as fun now (spontaneously hanging tree swings) as he was when he was younger. All us little cousins always looked up to him (and still do).
