Paper Dolls

September 24, 2009

Here are 6 very curious children who love to play together. They love to make things: make believe, make-up stories, make crafts, make food, and all sorts of other fun play. Each month, I will be adding new clothes (appropriate for the season) to the shop. You want to know the best part about it? The clothing will all be PDF downloads so you don’t have to even wait for shipping. Just print them out yourself, as many times as you need (to ensure you have plenty if that exacto knife goes astray!)

What I can’t decide, is if i should make the dolls a download. Would you want them shipped to you on super great paper for ensured sturdiness, or to print off your self? Opinions please:

I will have a mighty grand shop update on Tuesday morning. I’m a bit behind schedule, but I don’t think you will be disappointed!

I LOVE the new children. I know my grands will have wonderful fun with them. My vote would be to have them as a download. You would then be able to either keep them the size you drew them or copy them larger to use a decorations or “just to keep the “real live children” company while they draw or play at their tables.

If for instance I purchased them I would download them onto cover stock and then mount them on foam board. I would also make either wooden or foam board bases for them. You might even consider mentioning that idea for your “less than crafty” purchasers.

I can imagine my granddaughter Phoebe lining up the “children” and telling them EXACTLY what she wants them to do. A bit bossy but oh so much fun.

I would want the dolls shipped on appropriate paper. They are darling.

I vote for a pdf download. I love the idea of mounting them on something sturdy…I would most likely use particle board and mod podge them to it. Another awesome idea would be magnet paper, so that when we print the clothes, they could stick to the doll…! I’m in such anticipation for the new items to be revealed! xo

    I’d like a download.

As much as I would love the convenience of having them in PDF, I think that it would be better to get them on super sturdy paper all ready to go. Outfits are fine to be PDF, but the doll part can be a bit tricky if the paper isn’t right. Maybe you could include the PDF as well just in case grubby hands destroy them. Just a thought.

I vote for a download too! And, I love someone else’s idea of magnet paper! With a two and a half year old and a nine month old, everything goes in someone’s mouth, so it’d be nice to have the option to reprint when a head goes missing!

The “children” are so adorable. You sure know how to draw them just right! I think downloads would be good because of the reprint factor but also offering them already printed would appeal to a lot of people. Hmm… if I had to choose I’d choose the download.

Can’t wait to see the shop update!

What cute dolls! I, too, vote for a download. Of course, you could offer both or give recommendations on where to find the paper.

    Ship them.
I don’t have an appropriate printer to do them justice. I’m sure others are in the same situation.

Download. And I like the magnetic idea. I had a set as a child and loved them. Could take them anywhere and not loose their clothes!

They are just adorable. I think a download would be great, gives you a little more flexibility in how you want them to end up.

I think PDF. Regardless of paper weight, my daughter finds a way to destroy most things. With a PDF, we would be able to re-print our dolls that very same day. Looking forward to multiple outfits!!

I vote for PDF for the same reason as Amy. Hillary at Wee Wonderful has her paper dolls on a PDF and this is ultra-convenient. My two-year-old LOOOVES them, and when she’s loved them to hard, and I’m tired of taping them back together, I can print out new ones. If we lose one (what, me and my two-year-old, lose things?), we can reprint them. Of course, we don’t print out copies for friends without paying for a new set, but for practicality sake, I think the PDF paperdolls are Brilliant!

i would love to get them in the mail, but i know that i would more than likely actually buy them as a download. then i’d probably make 2 sets – one with magnets and one on paper.

sooo cute! I have a special place in my heart for paper dolls. I remember playing for hours with my friend, Paige, when I was about 9 years old. I think I liked them better than Barbie even. In regards to download vs. via mail, would it be possible to allow the buyer to make their choice? That may open a whole can of worms though. If I were to choose how I’d like it delivered, I think I would prefer a mailed version because I have a feeling your printer and paper would be higher quality than what I can produce.

I would choose to receive the dolls in the mail and then be able to download the clothes.

I love these kids, and can’t wait to get a set or two for my nieces!

I vote for a pdf download and I can print them out on heavy stock paper. They’re great! Thank you very much. I can’t to see their clothes.

I would like to receive the dolls on paper that would make them more sturdy and I don’t have a great printer. Maybe you offer a downloadable option for crafty folks and one that you could mail to those of us who are not as skilled in that area? So cute – I love them!

oooh, Sarah- these are darling! Love that I already have a perfect Christmas gift for my girls:) I could go either way- If PDF, I’d likely laminate the kids, but mail would be great too, b/c my intent to follow through with things (like laminating BEFORE my girls got a hold of ‘em) doesn’t always happen right away. Excited aout these, either way!

Beautiful! I’ll buy them either way;), but I think that I’d prefer them printed by you on your choice of cardstock. Can’t wait to see your shop update on Monday!

i love the red head with curly hair … she’s a twin of my libby! :)

i lean towards offering BOTH just sort of as a trial period. see what works … CUTE CUTE!

Possibly a download with paper suggestions you would offer??

  • 27
    vana says:

What about offering both? Some people might be great at picking the right kind of paper, others might find the it overwhelming and would want to buy the “ready” paper dolls.

    Catherine says:

Oh, the boys and girls at my house would all love these children. I vote for the sturdy paper–my printer would not do these justice.

    Sarah Jane says:

These are great suggestions! I think I will have to offer both…but the PDF will come first. I’ll offer the paper version next week or so after I get them ordered in. Thanks you guys!
