Dreaming of summer play.

April 01, 2009

I get a lot of inspiration from children’s clothing, and I have a few favorite places to check out. What gets me though, is WHY in the world do these dresses have to be $175 and $138???

(OK, OK. They are made by hand in Ethiopia, but really. Come on people!)

I think I will just be DRAWING these into my designs instead of modeling them on my little miss. Hopefully that will satisfy my cravings to doll her up in these adorable frocks!

Hi, I have just found your blog, thought I would say “Hi” and HOW MUCH? I don’t even buy dresses for myself that expensive! (I tend to be low maintenance I guess). I am so glad I have all boys. I love your designs by the way!!!

Ditto on the spendy pricetags!! I use J.Crew dresses as inspiration for my daughter’s dresses and then try to sew my own… Sometime their sales aren’t so bad, but by the time they’re a reasonable price, the good sizes are gone, agreed?? Love your work!

Yes, I want everything from J Crew, crewcuts and might as well throw all of Anthropologie in there! I have been having so much fun looking through all the new lines. Some of my favorites are http://www.florahenri.com, chasensky.com, and the spring-summer http://www.elephantito.com. The websites are dreamy, the photography is dreamy and oh yes the clothes are dreamy! A nod to chasing-fireflies too, I just posted a blog about it :) My motto “if you can’t buy it, (the wardrobe is already stuffed) draw it” Playing dress is so much fun no matter how you do it!

and that’s why i posted them, so we could all glean the ideas/style and not have to heft over our entire savings account. i’ll look for them in your future work, though! :)

Find a family that is adopting from Ethiopia and have them bring you dresses back. They are seriously $10 or less. We brought back several.
